Renaissance of the Classics

The Tour de France, the Giro d’Italia, Paris-Roubaix and Paris-Brest-Paris are legendary. The idea behind this road races remains unchanged: On a machine powered by muscle power, people try to cover a distance in the shortest possible time. Endurance, precision, strength, skills, attention, tactics, respect and much more are part of it. Today there is increasing reference to the above-mentioned cycling classics. Cycling enthusiasts can tackle the original stages themselves. In addition, another trend has developed in recent years: on historic roadbikes with steel frames and frame gears, riders in stylish woolen jerseys pay tribute to bygone racing bike eras. In the age of carbon fiber, the steel wheel is celebrating a renaissance. How much the classic road bike moves its fans has been demonstrated for more than two decades by LʻEroica in Tuscany. Every year, thousands come to the small town of Gaiole in Chianti to tackle the legendary “Eroica” route on the unique “strade bianche” (gravel roads). This cycling event draws wide circles. L´Eroica is cult and almost a must for cycling enthusiasts. This spark has long since jumped into the Weinviertel and we keep the fire burning.
On June 11th and 12th, the Weinviertel and Wolkersdorf will once again become the hub of the classic fans and a classic meeting point! Then everything revolves around the classic roadbike and its young and young at heart lovers.

Getting There

The small town Wolkersdorf im Weinviertel is located around 20 km north of Vienna.
Wolkersdorf is easily accessible by train.

By train:
Wolkersdorf is on the Vienna-Mistelbach railway line.
The regional train from Vienna Praterstern takes just over half an hour. The first train starts in such a way that at least the „Anspruchsvollen“ (140 km) have enough time to pick up their starting numbers. We recommend that everyone arrives the day before and attend the welcome party in the courtyard. Trains from Wolkersdorf to Vienna Praterstern run every 15 minutes on Sundays. The last one at 11:43 pm!
Don’t forget light!

By bicycle:
Just in case our routes are too short: you can pack about 25 km (Vienna Praterstern – Wolkersdorf) on top. Not counting detours.

Enjoying the Weinviertel

“Enjoyable Leisure” – this is the motto that the Weinviertel claims for itself. The gentle hilly landscape with its local peculiarities as well as the people of this region convey this special “way of living”.  A region that is committed to “decelerating”. It offers a counterpoint to fast-moving times. Cycling and the associated intense experience of the landscape is only a logical consequence. It is up to us to discover the “truths” of the Weinviertel for ourselves.

With this in mind, we can only recommend arriving earlier or adding a few days and enjoying In Velo Veritas. You can find related offers at https://www.weinviertel.at/inveloveritas

Supporting program
For In Velo Veritas it is best to take the whole weekend, because we have a lot to offer for the actual journey on Sunday. The welcome party on Saturday evening and other attractions in the area.
Together with the community, however, we will put together a sideprogram that suits the participants and their companions.

Photo-Service

The portrait photos of the participants by Peter Provaznik, Michi Kofler and others are a fixed point at In Velo Veritas. Every starter or finisher can be photographed free of charge in the photo tent.
The photos will then be published on our Flickr-Albums and can be downloaded there free of charge.

Routes

Velo Veritas lives from the uniqueness of the Weinviertel hill landscape. This gentle trough of waves also has high percentage ramps. And it is not uncommon for enchanted cellar vaults to be hidden in these hollow paths. In many cases, these unique cellar lanes are now being revived. In Velo Veritas, the routes mainly lead along remote cycle paths and goods paths as well as side roads with little traffic, some of which may not be asphalted. The routes have been chosen with care. They invite you to explore the unknown Weinviertel on two wheels at any time outside of our tour. On the top of the gentle elevations, there is an uplifting view into the distance. If you want to take a look at the routes of the last few years including the tracks from 2021: you can find the tracks on bikemap.net

Traditionally, we will not put the tracks online until after the 2022 tour. The routes will be well marked again, you don’t need any navigation!
